Russian Railways on grain transportation via Novorossiysk Commercial Sea Port

Nearly 10,000 cars wer loaded with grain across the railways network of Russia (or on average 350 cars per day) in February 2009. At the same time, the average daily unloading for all 3 routes of Novorossisk port reached only 268 cars, which led to the congestion of abandoned trains near it.

The second since early 2009 RZD conventional ban on the shipment of grain towards the Novorossiyskiy Grain Terminal did not solve the problem with abandoned trains. It expired on March 5, 2009. As of March 4, 2009, 29 trains with grain stood at North Caucasus Railway waiting for the unloading.

According to RZD Vice-President, RZD is ready to organize the removal of 700,000 tonnes of grain per month via Novorossiysk Commercial Sea Port, RZD said.
